Seconds Work

Lieselott Beschorner has never allowed her art to be pigeonholed. Even at over 90 years old, she is still primarily interested in the creative act itself - not just her own. She is delighted with the filmmaker's retractable 16mm camera, which, with its separated sound (consistently placed in front of the black frame by Perschon) and short running time, is perfect for the second drawings that arise purely from the impulse. Their essence is to end before the line finds a goal, a destination: "like a breath and away". (Viennale '21)
