Helene, a once celebrated theater diva, lives in seclusion in the retirement home where Toni, a former nurse and early retiree, is recovering from a fall. The two could not be more different. Helene faces her fears with airs and graces and delusions of control, while Toni covers up her problems with jokes or washes them down with booze. Together, they embark on a journey to Switzerland for euthanasia. The lack of a driver's license is the smallest obstacle that stands in the old women's way: Helene's nephew, a conservative politician, sees his career jeopardized by Helene's plans and pursues the two of them. A tragicomic road movie in which the limit of “frailty” creates completely new possibilities.
