It's autumn. In an untended garden on the outskirts of town lies a run-down villa. Three sisters live here: Margaretha, the oldest, directs their regiment from a wheelchair, Sophie takes care of the household, and Clara, the youngest, continues her former affair with the concert pianist Boris in her fantasy world. In the form of everyday vulgarities, they wage a kind of small war against each other. They can't live with each other, but they can't live without each other either. The father is long dead, his ghost still omnipresent. One day, a letter shakes up the lives of the three sisters.
