The Alpine saga, set as a six-part television drama, deals with the problems of the rural population up to 1945. In the second part, the Huber farmer's older brother returns to the village for the first time on home leave after a long period of service in the army. Astonished, he notices the changes in the village: Allinger's spirit factory is flourishing, Christl, his former bride, is now the wife of the innkeeper. Gradually Josef realizes that the uniform gives him prestige and that he is attracting more and more attention through his boastful tales.
