On the Edge of the World was filmed in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia: The year of independence, 1991 and, twelve months later, 1992, the year of civil war. It is the time of the young democracy. Statues topple, squares are renamed. Everything seems to be different after decades of oppression and isolation. "Freedom" and "homeland" are the utopias of a hopeful future. It is "the time of songs". But then comes "the time of war": the clashes between supporters and opponents of the old power now dominate the picture on the streets of Tbilisi. Bloody battles and bombing terror become part of everyday life. And funerals. At the Edge of the World follows these traces of death. In addition to the general events of the war, the film also documents the effects on the fate of individuals and describes how a radicalization of violence is progressing.
