Athos – A Taste of Heaven

The Athos Peninsula in Greece is one of Europe's last secrets: more than 2,000 monks live there, isolated from the outside world. Access is forbidden to women, tourists are not welcome. Only workers and pilgrims receive visas. The monk republic attracts people who are missing something in modern life. With the help of three Athos monks, "Athos – A Taste of Heaven" is a film diary that has never been told before. The leitmotif is the path that we humans must find and walk - each for himself. "First we must heal our own souls, then we can help others," is one of the core messages of Father Galaktion, a hermit on the Holy Mountain. But not all monks live as secluded and humble a life as Father Galaktion. Among others, Father Epiphanios, a gifted and poetic cook who is by no means averse to the pleasures of life, opens his doors to the film team.
