The aircraft carrier Kiev was once the pride and symbol of the Soviet Navy - a colossus of the sea, an impregnable fortress. Abandoned in 1994, the now rusty ship is embarking on its last voyage: In China, it is to drop anchor for good as an adventure park for tourists. Holzhausen, who accompanied the Kiev for more than five years, focuses the film on those men who have served on the Kiev since its launch in 1972. The stories of these people are closely linked to the fate of the ship: With the disintegration of the Soviet Union, they too lost their place in society. The Kiev has long since become an image of memory; a ghost ship that constantly cruises through the dreams of its former crew.
