"The protagonists of Harald Friedl's documentary OUT OF TIME are veterans of traditional Viennese retail. For decades they have worked in their stores, which still defy competition from international retail chains. When their operators retire, the stores - a butcher's store, a drugstore, a leather goods store and the legendary haberdashery Knopfkönig - will close. The work has visibly shaped the people portrayed, forming physical and linguistic routines: as soon as customers enter the store, the tone of voice changes. But only the butcher's shop is bustling with customers; more often, no one comes. Then you walk in circles, reshelving the goods or hanging out loud with your thoughts." ISABELLA RICHER
