Das Mädl aus der Vorstadt
Performance at the Burgtheater as part of the Vienna Festival on June 7, 1962. Recording from the Burgtheater, 1963
Mrs. Erbsenstein, a mature woman from the suburbs who is newly engaged to the young Mr. von Gigl, is what one might call a good catch; Mr. von Gigl, on the other hand, has suddenly decided to marry for love—he’s taken a shine to a girl from the suburbs. In the suburbs, Mr. von Kauz—Mrs. Erbsenstein’s uncle, a cheerful bon vivant with a somewhat checkered past—is also seeking romantic adventures. All the more upright is the shrewd lawyer Schnoferl, who pulls all the strings and works with cunning and wit to bring the story to a happy conclusion. A spirited comedy delight featuring Trude Ackermann, Lona Dubois, Helma Gautier, Ingeborg Gruber, Elisabeth Höbarth, Christiane Hörbiger, Susi Nicoletti, Ernst Anders, Richard Eybner, Ernst Gegenbauer, Josef Meinrad, Hans Thimig, and Josef Wichart.
