The Border Fence
Brenner border pass: In spring 2016, politicians will take measures to protect Austria from a renewed influx of refugees. A fence is also being discussed at the Brenner Pass and border controls between North and South Tyrol are to be reintroduced for the first time in almost twenty years. Politicians are making a fuss in media reports and appear determined. The local authorities are appeasing. And the residents find themselves torn. Many fear the "constructional measure" as well as the supposed threat of alienation of the Tyrolean homeland. At the end of the film, the fence is still rolled up in the container, the newly built registration center has never gone into full operation, and the feared influx of refugees has failed to materialize.
