The dramatic, intoxicating, but also infinitely sad love story between Ingeborg Bachmann and Paul Celan begins in 1948, when she is 22 and he is 27, and it ends with Celan's suicide in Paris in 1971. For Ingeborg Bachmann it is the great love of her life, and yet she never stops seeing the stranger in him. Things are not always nice in the gripping correspondence between the two, the basis of Beckermann's film. Two young actors, the musician Anja Plaschg (Soap&Skin) and Laurence Rupp, meet in a film studio to read from it. The dramatically fluctuating feelings of the letters - between exhilaration and fear of loss, delight and fright, closeness and strangeness - pass over to the actors. But they also have fun, argue, smoke, talk about tattoos and music. Whether love then or love now, staging or documentary: where the levels blur, the heart of the film beats.
"Rarely has a film moved me as much as this reading lesson, which achieves maximum effect with the simplest means. With THE DREAMED ONE, Ruth Beckermann has brought burning, poetic energy to the screen." JUGEND OHNE FILM
