Doctor Nature - Healing without chemistry
Chemistry is out, and the herbal renaissance is booming. Science journalist Kurt Langbein visits spa clinics that achieve amazing success with "Traditional European Medicine," Ayurveda or Traditional Chinese Medicine. The film portrays people who are trying to become healthy again with the means of naturopathy. And it gives insight into the work of science: In the meantime, modern pharmacologists are also researching the modes of action of the plants and often make a discovery. The Chinese researcher Tu Youyou, for example, was awarded the Nobel Prize just last year for her work on mugwort extract as an active ingredient against malaria. Of course, there are also profiteers to be warned against: some of the herbal remedies advertised on the market contain dangerous heavy metals.
