Walking does not solve any problems, but provokes a different pace, other contradictions, a different view of individuals in relation to architecture, to space. Filmmakers Thomas Baumann and Martin Kaltner have turned walking into a genre, WALKING FILM. Or even the imperative, as one of their titles reads: GEH! (WALK!) Which could also mean don't get in line - literally and figuratively. They borrowed theory from the Situationists' psychographic urban wanderings. The camera seems little interested in the state of mind that could be read from the attitude of the walkers. Baumann and Kaltner are more interested in penetrating places not intended for walkers, or in wringing a new perspective from well-worn paths.
"For these films, WHAT you do is not that significant. What's important is HOW you do it." CLAUS PHILIPP
