Three Farmers And A Son
In his essayistic documentary, filmmaker Sigmund Steiner - himself a farmer's son - portrays three farmers at work in the forest, in the fields and on the alpine pastures. One question determines everything: Will their children one day take over their property or will the farming profession die out with them? And why did they once decide to continue their fathers' work? Although none of these three men is Sigmund Steiner's father, HOLZ ERDE FLEISCH shapes itself as the filmmaker's sensitive examination of his own father-son story.
"The courage of this clever film lies in its simplicity. It is a film about fathers and sons, whose cinematic universe is a small world in rural Austria. But its greatness lies in having as its theme, nevertheless, the universal of the human. It's a film full of tenderness, about life and death, origins and the future."
