In the context of the spiteful coverage of EVERYMAN'S FEAST, domestic tabloid media are divided as to whether Brandauer is still brilliant or already completely out of the business. In any case, he actually gifts this film with a magnificently reduced performance. It's as if, when Jedermann lapses into airs and graces, he's watching himself from a tremendously wistful, unpretentious, almost ashamed distance. Thirty years ago, Oskar Werner might have offered something comparable. In Austrian cinema it is unparalleled. CLAUS PHILIPP
"I wanted, in contrast to the cathedral square in Salzburg, where the distance to the festive table is a very great one, to use the ability of the camera to put the viewer directly at the table." FRITZ LEHNER
