This film tells the story of the fundamentally different brothers Martin and Kurt, who meet again after a long time at their father's funeral. The one is a reluctant nest-egg, the other a rebellious runaway, and they rub up against each other in a dispute over the small family-owned fishmonger's store. Martin wants to transform the business into a modern, ecologically minded enterprise and is involved in globalization criticism - not least to impress Karin, a student. His brother Kurt is not very interested in his ideas for improving the world, but is all the more interested in Karin. The brothers' relationship is initially marked by distrust and disappointment, until they gradually realize that they are not so different and that they complement each other. But when they finally put the complicated conflicts behind them, it is too late. Each of them must first free themselves from the old burdens in order to make a self-determined new start.
