Two people return to the Mediterranean island of Lampedusa. This is where Giulia overcame a personal crisis, where Zakaria fled from the civil war in his homeland Somalia. Schreiner tells of them, of encounters, of innermost thoughts, existential questions and fears, of transience. It is a search for meaning that remains fragmentary and moves between the past and the present. In the monologues and conversations, the past forces its way into the present of the filmic image. It has visibly inscribed itself in the skin, the faces, the bodies, which the director explores in close-ups so that they become almost tangible and yet remain highly artificial.
