Communal property, free sexuality, dissolution of the small family - these were the basic principles of the Friedrichshof, the largest commune in Europe, founded by the Viennese actionist Otto Mühl in the early 1970s. In My Fathers, My Mother and Me director Paul-Julien Robert, who was born into this commune, embarks on a personal journey into his own past. Drawing on archival footage shown publicly for the first time in the film, the director confronts himself and his mother with the question: what is family?
"We can't choose who we are brought into the world by. But the view of this world, we can shape that." CLAUS PHILIPP, CITY CINEMA
