Night Shifts

"NIGHT SHIFTS" shows people in Berlin who remain invisible during the day and have chosen the night to live their lives. The idea was to accompany them on their journeys through the night in order to fathom the motives for their displaced rhythm of living and to make the shape and order of today's big city night tangible. Some work and live in the night by choice, others have been forced to do so by fate; others use the darkness to operate in secret, some find a new home in it. My intention was to explore cinematically the tension between a pragmatic routine with which the night is spent or organized, and the existential longings and anxieties that seem to be inevitably evoked."
