Scars of a Putsch

The military coup on September 12, 1980, brought the dream of a Turkish democracy to an abrupt end. Abidin, the husband of director Nathalie Borgers, was a revolutionary in the 1970s and fled to Vienna, Austria, after the coup. The director embarks on a personal quest to uncover the story behind the scars on her husband’s body and discovers how the violent upheaval transformed Turkish society and paved the way for an authoritarian regime and the political re-Islamization of the country.
