In a small village in the Austrian Alps stands a former inn. Many years ago, when there were summer resorts, a grand establishment. Two sisters grew up here. Sonja now lives in Berlin, she has become an actress, very successful, a TV star. Verena, a little older, has not left the village. After the accidental death of her mother, she lives with her husband and child in her parents' house, which is now much too big for the few inhabitants. But she is not as modest as she seems. And the father of the two sisters also lives in the large house, a patriarch who has grown old and grumpy. His wife has died, and the inn has been shut down ever since. It is autumn, a beautiful October, the leaves on the tree behind the house have already turned colorful. Then a severe heart attack brings him close to death.
"Beautifully played and impeccably lit and composed, this high-quality family drama takes its time to introduce its flawed but humane protagonists and then steadily builds toward a payoff that's at once cathartic and artfully restrained." THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER
