In SLUMMING, Vienna becomes a crossroad for characters from different milieus. Glawogger makes this clear by aligning his film with a social practice: Slumming is about expanding one's combat zone. Sebastian (August Diehl) and Alex (Michael Ostrowski), two young men with a lot of free time on their hands, prefer to seek out places that are below their class in order to "meet people you would never meet otherwise": seedy dive bars, red-light bars, discos with a high percentage of foreigners. One night they catch sight of the drunken Kallmann (Paulus Manker), pack him into the trunk of their car and take him across the border into the Czech Republic. DOMINIK KAMALZADEH
