Aba Lewitt comes with his father and siblings from a small Polish village to Krakow, where he is forced to help build the Plaszow camp, where he is later imprisoned. The Austrian Amon Göth is the particularly cruel commandant there, killing Jews randomly and for his own amusement. Aba Lewitt is also shot, but survives by chance and has to watch his sister being liquidated. He survives Mauthausen and his "liberation " and comes by chance to Vienna, where he meets his future wife, herself the only survivor of her family. Only with his wife he manages to overcome his trauma to some extent, but encounters anti-Semitism in Vienna until the recent past. Aba Lewitt has no grandchildren and has his declared last conversation about the Holocaust with Fabian Eder.
