The very fact that Katja's granddaughter Vesna has a Creole mother creates its own atmosphere. Katja Sturm-Schnabl comes from a large farming family in Carinthia that belongs to the Slovene ethnic group. Through the eyes of a child, she experiences the deportation and death of her sister. The return from the camp does not turn out to be easier; the Slovene returnees are not welcomed and are harassed. She tells of her troublesome path into Austrian society, how she was confronted with racism and hostility while still at the Academy of Science, and how therapy at ESRA, which she was only able to begin in the 1990s, finally helped her to come to terms with her experiences. Vesna leads this conversation very actively, intervening, seeking connection to her life and to today.
