"Almost like a high" - this is how a young musician describes the experience of being part of such a renowned orchestra. The documentary WIRED FOR MUSIC - INSIDE THE WIENER SYMPHONIKER BY Iva Švarcová and Malte Ludin allows for the first time a look behind the scenes of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the guardians of the world-famous "Viennese Sound". What is special about this film is that it also shows the darker side of being a musician, tells of fears of failure and loss, and of how narrow the line between triumph and disaster can be - art as a high-wire act. WIRED FOR MUSIC also takes up the challenge for more "women's power" in this - still - male-dominated world: because the nerve-racking audition for the position of Konzertmeister is won by a woman, Sophie Heinrich, against all competitors. And how can the legendary "Viennese sound" be defined? It has something "sensual", something "light", says chief conductor Philippe Jordan. Cultivating this sound, the film makes clear, is by no means "worshipping the ashes," but rather: "passing on the fire."
"With WIRED FOR MUSIC, the directing duo has succeeded in creating an intimate look behind the scenes, but the film is more than an insider's report on the classical music business: it also demonstrates how essential the art form of music is for Austrian culture."DIE FURCHE
