Verkaufte Heimat - Part 1

VERKAUFTE HEIMAT was perhaps the only film for a long time that dealt with the historical developments in South Tyrol in the period between 1938 and the mid-sixties. This critical period is examined through the stories of three families.

Part 1 "Brennende Lieb'": A South Tyrolean Village in the 1930s: Italian fascism is trying to Italianize the South Tyroleans. High up on the mountain are two farms, the Tschurtschenthaler family and the Oberhollenzer family. The yield of both farms is poor, taxes are rising. Hermann, the heir to the farm, hopes to be saved by the German Reich.
