Wanted

WANTED is, of course, neither a Western nor a parody of the genre. The Western scenes are the dreamed-up illusions of a stress-ridden surgeon (Alfred Dorfer) who relaxes from reality in the saddle. Whether drinking whiskey at the bar, dueling with hated fellow doctors, or later sitting around a campfire with the parson (Michael Niavarani), Dorfer remains a lonely but intact hero in the rugged West, hunted by (Spaghetti Western-tested) Marshall John Philipp Law. Stylistically Sergio Leone's preferences for close-ups and detail shots are cited, but the dialogues continue to strive for proven Austrian Schmäh. DOMINIK KAMALZADEH
