The Children of the Dead
A Super 8 vacation film becomes the resurrection of the undead, local idylls are spookily subverted: In 2017, Nature Theater of Oklahoma (Kelly Copper and Pavol Liska) adapted Elfriede Jelinek's opus magnum, the ghost novel "The Children of the Dead", at the "steirischer herbst" in the original locations in Upper Styria. As a performance, the project was awarded the Nestroy Prize in 2018. In 2019, it received the prestigious International Film Critics Award, among others.
"This silent film is hilarious, snappy, sometimes confusing, funny and certainly something not everyone agrees with. But that's what cinema is all about: We have to disagree!" JURY STATEMENT FIPRESCIPREIS, BERLINALE FORUM 2019
