The Piano Teacher
The Austrian-French co-production THE PIANO PLAYER by Michael Haneke won three main prizes at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival: In addition to the actors' prizes for Isabelle Huppert and Benoît Magimel, the film adaptation of Elfriede Jelinek's novel of the same name was also awarded the Grand Jury Prize. THE PIANO PLAYER - this is Erika Kohut (Isabelle Huppert), who teaches piano at the music conservatory and lives with her overbearing mother (Annie Girardot). She lives out her repressed sexuality in voyeuristic expeditions through peep shows and porn cinemas, as well as in masochistic acts of self-mutilation. But one day, her student Walter Klemmer (Benoît Magimel) takes it into his head to seduce his teacher ...
"Film suggests that everything that is is predictable. But every life, including one's own, passes while one is still watching this or that film on the screen." ELFRIEDE JELINEK
