Menschenfrauen
The question of the human being woman, which is already alluded to in the title, is brought into light by VALIE EXPORT in MENSCHENFRAUEN on a relational level. To what extent social changes and progress are in sight since the beginning of the women's movement, EXPORT tries to illuminate the gender relationship of four women to one man and to make visible different life forms and alternatives. With MENSCHENFRAUEN she undertakes an analysis of the status quo and unrolls the very different forms of heterosexual life practice on the basis of a relationship pentagon. Whether marriage, partnership, friendship, the roles between man and woman are distributed. The question remains how and in what form change is possible.
"The film depicts the relationships of the journalist Franz S. with four women. The film does not show solutions. It shows how conditions are today, the entanglements and implications of human coexistence, and the need to escape determinate behavior." VALIE EXPORT
