Like the Others
The documentary LIKE THE OTHERS portrays the everyday work of the child and adolescent psychiatric clinic in Tulln as a permanent balancing act between caution and pressure, routine and improvisation. Concise observations in direct cinema mode condense into a touching, disturbing questioning of an institution and its social function: What help can the clinic provide in the short time until the children and adolescents return to their everyday lives? The documentary counters difuse psychiatric fears with a precise observer's view. For more than one and a half years, director Constantin Wulf followed the everyday life of the department for child and adolescent psychiatry in the Lower Austrian regional hospital in Tulln. His unsentimentally empathetic film shows institutional work: between rules and improvisation.
